Australia’s top male Referee, Angus Gardner will officiate one of the most anticipated clashes of the Six Nations when England take on traditional rivals France in London on Saturday 4 February.

Gardner is in line to officiate his fourth tier one match and shows the faith put in him by World Rugby in 2016, with his management of the New Zealand and South Africa in Christchurch earlier in the year earning him another opportunity in one of Rugby’s fiercest tournaments.

In a big year for the Sydneysider, Gardner was also named Australian Rugby’s Referee of the year at the John Eales Medal in October.

Australian Rugby Head of Referees, Scott Young: “This match appointment is a great opportunity for Angus to continue his progression through the Refereeing Pathway and highlights the esteem he is held in globally.

“A tried and true professional, Angus continues to show an incredible work ethic to his craft and this shows with how well he has managed Test matches this year.

“As a refereeing team we are constantly looking to expand the amount of referees we have at that top level for both men and women and we look forward to another big year in 2017.”

The Six Nations kicks off with round one on Saturday February 4.
